指や棒などで軽く押すこと。または誰かを促したり思い出させたりすることもある。

物理的につつく場合（例：棒でつつく）、または比喩的に促す場合（例：勉強するよう働きかける）に使われる。'Gentle prods' は穏やかな促しを意味する。
