多くの人が知らない秘密や内密な情報を知っている状態を指す表現。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

フォーマルな場面で使われ、機密情報や内部事情に触れる場合に多い表現。「privy to information」などと使う。カジュアルな会話ではほとんど使われない。
