아주 공식적이고 학술적인 표현; 주로 'is predicated on' 형태로 쓰인다. 에세이, 연구, 분석에 자주 등장. 일상 회화에는 잘 쓰지 않는다. 'depend on'이나 'base on'과 혼동할 수 있다.
