집이나 아파트에 살기 위해 정기적으로 집주인에게 돈을 내는 것. 비유적으로 생계비를 마련한다는 뜻으로도 쓰인다.

주로 구어체에서 사용. 실제 집세를 내거나 생계 유지를 뜻할 수 있다. 'pay the rent', 'it pays the rent'처럼 다양한 맥락에 맞게 쓸 수 있다.
