家やアパートに住むために大家さんに定期的にお金を払うこと。比喩的に最低限の生活費を稼ぐ意味でも使われる。

主に口語表現。「家賃を払う」は実際の支払いにも、最低限の生活費を稼ぐ意味にも使われる。『pay the rent』は直訳・比喩の両方でOK。
