誰かが気絶して意識を失っている時や、とても深い眠りに入って起きない時に使われます。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

カジュアルな会話やメディアでよく使われ、「完全に寝ている」「気絶した」状態のみを指します。普通に起きている人には使いません。
