誰かに依頼されずに、報酬や採用を期待して自主的に仕事をすること。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

'on spec'は主にライターやデザイナーなどクリエイティブな仕事でよく使われ、就職活動や通常の仕事には使わない。他の英語表現 'on special' とは違う。例えば『write on spec』『submit on spec』など。
