Definition

仕事中や当番として責任を持って勤務している状態を指します。

警察や医者、警備員、サービス業などに多く使われます。「off duty（非番）」が反対語。オフィスワーカーにはあまり使いません。「Who is on duty tonight?」や「while on duty」などの表現があります。

The nurse is on duty tonight.

今夜、その看護師は**勤務中**です。

He is on duty at the police station.

彼は警察署で**勤務中**です。
