新生児とは、生後4週間未満の赤ちゃんのことです。

「新生児」は医療現場でよく使われる正式な用語です。日常会話では「赤ちゃん」や「生まれたばかりの赤ちゃん」が一般的です。「neonatal care」「neonatal unit」は医療関係で使われます。4週間を過ぎた赤ちゃんには使いません。
