何かに参加しなかったり、その場にいなかったために、できるはずだったことや得られるはずだったものを経験できないこと。

口語的によく使われます。「miss out on」の後に何を逃したかが続きます（例：'miss out on the fun'）。『miss』だけよりも、機会損失や後悔のニュアンスが強いです。
