누군가를 방해하거나 괴롭히거나 장난을 치는 것을 의미한다. 가벼운 장난이나 경고할 때 사용된다.

'Don't mess with me'는 경고나 위협, 'mess with something'은 함부로 건드림을 의미한다. 신체적 폭력보다는 장난・불편함 표현에 더 가깝다.
