Pressionar ou esmagar algo até virar uma mistura macia e homogênea, geralmente com uma ferramenta ou com as mãos. Muito usado na culinária, especialmente para fazer purê de batatas ou frutas.

Principalmente usado na culinária: 'mashing potatoes' (amassar batatas), 'mashing fruit' (amassar fruta). Não confundir com 'smashing' (quebrar com força). Às vezes usado em música ('mashup').
