乙女（おとめ）

Definition

乙女は、若くて未婚の女性を指し、多くは物語や詩、昔話などで使われます。純粋さや無垢さを表すことが多い言葉です。

「乙女」は古風で文学的な表現で、現代会話ではほとんど使われません。おとぎ話や詩、古い物語によく登場します。普段は「若い女性」や「女の子」と言います。

The story was about three maidens who lived by the sea.

物語は海辺に住んでいた三人の**乙女**についてでした。

In the poem, the maidens sang in the garden.

詩の中で**乙女**たちは庭で歌っていた。

The village celebrated the festival with dancing maidens.
