Definition

誰かに他の人へ伝言を頼む、または不在の人に伝言を残すこと。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

やや丁寧または伝統的な表現で、職場やホテル、不在時に使われます。最近は「メッセージを残す」が一般的ですが、「伝言を残す」のパターンもよく用いられます。

Examples

If you can't reach him, please leave word with the secretary.

彼に連絡が取れなければ、秘書に**伝言を残してください**。

You can leave word at the front desk for Mr. Lee.
