यह ब्रिटिश अंग्रेज़ी का सहज मुहावरा है, जिसमें किसी को झूठी उम्मीद या गलत जानकारी देकर धोखे में रखना बताया जाता है। अंग्रेज़ी के अमेरिकी रूप में कम इस्तेमाल होता है। इसके हिंदी समकक्ष 'बहला-फुसलाना' या 'धोखा देना' हैं।
