身元不明や匿名の女性を指す仮名で、主に法的・医療・警察の場面で使われます。男性の場合は「ジョン・ドウ」が使われます。

「Jane Doe」は英語圏の公式な場面で使われ、日常会話ではあまり使われません。実際の名前が分からない女性にのみ使います。
