他人に苦痛や損害などの好ましくないことを与えること。
Usage Notes (Japanese)
主に悪い出来事や深刻な場面で用いられる表現。『pain』『damage』などネガティブな名詞と共によく使う。受け身で表現することが多い（例：苦しみが与えられた）。良いことには使わない。
