Definition

誰かを刑務所に入れるか、自由を奪い出られないようにすること。比喩的に誰かの自由を制限する意味でも使う。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主に法的・厳粛な場面で使われます。比喩的に「fear imprisons him（恐怖が彼を縛る）」のようにも使います。「detain」（一時的に拘束する）と混同しないように。
