把某人关进监狱，或者限制某人的自由，使其无法离开。有时也可用于比喻，表示限制某人自由。

正式用语，多用于法律或严肃场合。可以指真实监禁，也可指比喻意义，如“恐惧监禁他”。常与'因……被监禁'搭配。注意不要与‘拘留’（短期）混淆。
