個々の単語の意味からは推測できない特別な意味を持つ表現や言い回しのことです。日常会話でよく使われます。

「idiom」はやや専門的な言葉ですが、日常や学習の場でも使います。「idiomatic expressions」として使われることも。直訳すると意味が伝わりません。「方言」や「言語」とは異なります。
