मुहावरा वह वाक्यांश है जिसका अर्थ उसके शब्दों के शाब्दिक अर्थ से अलग होता है, और जो रोज़मर्रा की भाषा में इस्तेमाल होता है।

'Idiom' एक औपचारिक शब्द है जिसे भाषाविज्ञान और आम बातचीत में इस्तेमाल किया जाता है। इसे 'idiomatic expressions' में भी देखें। इसे 'बोली' या 'भाषा' से न मिलाएँ। मुहावरे का अर्थ शब्दशः न समझें।
