자신을 보이지 않게 어떤 것의 뒤에 숨는 것, 또는 책임을 회피하기 위해 핑계나 다른 사람을 이용하는 것.

실제(물리적으로) 숨을 때도, 비유적으로(책임 회피) 쓸 때도 많음. 'hide behind an excuse'는 핑계 뒤에 숨다로 해석. 공식적이거나 속어는 아니고, 일상적으로 씀.
