用牙齒慢慢且反覆地啃咬某物。也可比喻某事反覆困擾或讓人擔憂。

常見於描述動物如老鼠、狗。比喻如“gnaws at”指某種情緒反覆困擾（如“罪惡感持續折磨著他”）。不適用於大口或快速的咬，‘bite’或‘chew’更一般。
