Em produções de cinema e TV, "gaffer" é o chefe da equipe de iluminação. Informalmente, principalmente no inglês britânico, também pode significar chefe, supervisor ou até um homem mais velho.

No inglês americano, "gaffer" refere-se quase sempre ao chefe de iluminação no audiovisual. No britânico, é informal para "chefe" em trabalhos braçais ou pode ser um idoso. Não confundir com "gaffer tape" (fita resistente usada em sets).
