अक्सर तब इस्तेमाल होता है जब कोई घबराकर या संतुलन बिगड़ने पर हाथ-पैर मारता है। 'flailing arms' आम प्रयोग है। भावनात्मक या जीवन में दिशाहीनता के लिए भी कहा जा सकता है।
