Destruir ou fazer um buraco em algo aos poucos ao comer, roer ou por um processo químico, geralmente até atravessar.

Usado normalmente para ferrugem, ácido, insetos ou roedores a danificar materiais; não se usa para pessoas a comer. Expressões: 'acid eats through metal', 'mice eat through wires'. Refere destruição lenta e completa.
