Definition

液体を加熱して蒸気にし、冷やして純粋な液体を得ること。また、物事の本質や重要な部分を抜き出す意味でも使う。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

科学や酒・水の精製でよく用いられる正式な言葉。比喩的には、考えや情報の要点を簡潔にまとめる時にも使う（'distill knowledge' など）。'extract' とは区別。
