Mất mạng do một nguyên nhân, hành động hoặc cách thức cụ thể nào đó. Ví dụ: chết vì lửa, chết do kiếm, chết do chất độc.

'die by' đi kèm nguyên nhân trực tiếp gây chết, như 'die by fire', 'die by sword'. Với bệnh, dùng 'die of'.
