誰かや何かをばかにして強く嘲笑したり、見下したりすること。

非常にフォーマルで文学的な単語。日常会話ではあまり使わない。「～を嘲笑で迎える」などの表現で使われる。単なるからかい以上に、強い侮蔑を含む。
