এটি হঠাৎ করে হওয়া খুব ভারী বন্যা বা প্রবল বৃষ্টিকে বোঝায়। কখনও কখনও এর মানে কোনো কিছুর প্রচুর পরিমাণেও হতে পারে, যেমন বার্তার স্রোত।

সাধারণত সাহিত্যে বা আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে ব্যবহৃত হয়। 'a deluge of emails' বা 'a deluge of problems' বলতে কোনো কিছুর অত্যধিক পরিমাণ বোঝানো হয়।
