とても怖い時に体を縮めたり、後ろに引いたりすること。恐怖に対して体で反応する様子。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主に恐怖で体が反応する場合に使います。'cower in fear'や'cower behind'などの表現が多いです。日常会話ではあまり使われず、文学的・フォーマルな語感です。'cover'（覆う）とは異なります。
