Cornerstones হল এমন সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ বা ভিত্তি, যা কোনো কিছু—বিশ্বাস, ব্যবস্থা, অথবা কোনো ভবন—কে স্থিতিশীল করে। এটি সাধারণত মূল ভিত্তিপ্রস্তর বোঝালেও, প্রায়ই মূল নীতিমালা বা অপরিহার্য উপাদান বোঝাতেও ব্যবহৃত হয়।

'মূলস্তম্ভ' এবং 'ভিত্তিপ্রস্তর' শব্দ দুটি সাধারণভাবে লেখার সময় ব্যবহৃত হয়। সাধারণত 'cornerstones of society' বা 'cornerstones of education' এর মতো গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভিত্তিতে ব্যবহৃত হয়। কেবল কোনও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ নয়, বরং একেবারে মৌলিক ও অপরিহার্য অংশ বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
