非常に複雑で分かりにくいこと。特に説明や物語、計画などがまとまりなく入り組んでいる場合に使う。

主にフォーマルな場面や学術的な文で使う。「convoluted story」「convoluted argument」といった表現が多い。単純な“複雑”より、さらに入り組んで混乱しやすい場面で用いる。物理的なものにはあまり使わず、比喩的に利用。
