Definition

穀物の外側の乾いた皮で、精米や脱穀の際に取り除かれる部分。または、価値のないものを指す比喩表現。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

農業では実際のもみがら、比喩では「価値のないもの」。'separating the wheat from the chaff' は「価値あるものを選び出す」という意味で用いられます。日常会話ではあまり出てきません。
