하나씩 연속적으로 일어나거나 단계적으로 변화하는 것을 의미한다. 폭포처럼 차례로 연결되는 흐름이나 현상을 설명할 때 주로 쓴다.

주로 기술, 과학, 공식 문맥에서 쓴다('cascading failure', 'cascading style sheets' 등). 사람이 넘어진다는 의미에는 쓰지 않으며, 그때는 'falling'을 사용한다.
