カーペットバガーは、自分の利益のために新しい土地に移住する人のことです。特に政治やビジネスの場面で使われ、アメリカ南北戦争後に北部から南部に移った人も指します。

多くの場合ネガティブな意味で使われます。地元への愛着がなく、利益目当ての人を指します。歴史やビジネス、政治で使われますが、日常会話ではまれです。
