求める頼る訪ねる

Definition

誰かに正式に何かを頼んだり、助けを求めたりすること。また、特定の理由で人を訪ねる意味もある。

ややフォーマルな表現で、スピーチや公式な依頼でよく使われます（‘call upon someone to act’）。『call upon a friend』は訪問を意味します。‘call up’や‘call on’とは異なるので注意。法律・政治・学問分野でよく使われる語です。

The teacher calls upon each student to answer a question.

先生はそれぞれの生徒に質問に答えるよう**求めます**。

We may need to call upon our friends for help.

私たちは友人に助けを**求める**必要があるかもしれません。

I will call upon you tomorrow to discuss the project.
