Definition

ボタンホールは、ボタンを通して衣服を留めるために生地に作られた小さな穴や切れ目のことです。ほとんどの場合、ほつれないように縫い目で補強されています。

衣類（特にシャツやジャケット）では複数形で使われることが多いです。「ボタンホールを縫う」「きれいなボタンホール」などの表現に使います。「buttonholer（専用アタッチメント）」とは異なります。ほぼ衣類限定の語です。
