突然速く走り始めること。特に馬が歩いたり小走りから全速力の駈け足になるときに使う表現。

主に馬について使うが、人や集団が突然素早く動き出すことにも比喩的に使われる。文学的・叙述的な表現で、日常会話ではあまり使わない。
