本や記事、音声などを重要でない部分を省いて、主要な内容や話の流れを保ったまま短くしたバージョン。

主に本や文章、オーディオ作品で使われます。「abridged version」「abridged edition」などの形が一般的。要約（summary）とは異なり、原文そのままでボリュームだけ短縮されたものです。
