"hold your peace" in Japanese
Definition
意見を求められたときに発言せず、沈黙を守ること。特に結婚式や儀式などのフォーマルな場面で使われる表現。
Usage Notes (Japanese)
フォーマルや伝統的な場面でよく使われ、カジュアルな会話ではあまり使われません。「speak now or forever hold your peace」が有名なフレーズです。
Examples
At the wedding, the priest asked if anyone objected or wanted to hold your peace.
