꼭 필요하지 않아도 특별히 신경을 써서 무언가를 하는 것.

'Don't go to the trouble'처럼 주로 부정문에서 쓰며, 누군가의 노력을 고맙게 여기거나 굳이 필요하지 않음을 알릴 때 사용한다. 'go to the trouble of ~ing'에서처럼 동작 앞에 붙여 표현한다. 반공식적이며 친근한 느낌이 있다.
