Definition
重要な出来事や結果が起こるのを待つこと。特に避けられない事や発表などに使われ、また大晦日にタイムズスクエアのボールが落ちるのを待つ意味もある。

たいていは重大な発表や決定が出るのを、やや不安や緊張感をもって待つ場合に使います。英語圏、特にアメリカでよく使われる表現です。
