Definition

「昔」や「過去に」を表すフォーマルな表現。昔話や多くの年前に起きたことを説明するときに使う。

とてもフォーマルでやや古風な表現。物語、歴史的な文書やスピーチでよく使う。文頭に来ることが多い。日常会話では使われにくい。

People believed in many old stories in times past.
