특히 먹이를 많이 주어 동물이나 사람을 살찌게 하다. 주로 농업에서 사용됨.

주로 가축을 시장에 내보내기 전 살찌울 때 사용하며, 사람에게는 부정적으로 들릴 수 있다. 'fatten up' 표현은 비유로도 쓸 수 있다(예: '지갑을 살찌우다').
