An effusion is the flowing out of a liquid, often used in medicine to describe the escape of fluid into a body cavity. It can also refer to an outpouring of emotion or words.

Often formal or medical; 'pleural effusion' and 'pericardial effusion' are common in healthcare. In general, 'effusion' for emotion is literary. Not to be confused with 'infusion' (adding liquid).
