Used to show a smaller amount or degree of something. It can compare quantities (not as much as), or say something is not as big, important, or strong as something else.

Do NOT use with countable plural nouns—use 'fewer' instead ('fewer apples' not 'less apples'). Often used for time, money, and distance.
