指親眼看到某件事發生的人，尤其是犯罪或事故，因此能夠描述經過。也可以指在法庭上提供證詞、證明某事的人。

常用於法律或新聞語境。'Witnesses' 可以指在現場看到事件的人（'Several witnesses saw the crash'），也可以指在法庭上作證的人（'The witnesses were called to testify'）。不要和動詞 'witness'（目睹、見證）混淆。

The police talked to two witnesses after the accident.

事故發生後，警察和兩名**目擊者**談了話。
