Definition

誰かや何かを強い力で打ちのめすこと。古語や宗教的な文脈では、罰するという意味もある。

文学・宗教的な文脈でよく使われ、日常会話ではほとんど聞かれません。「smite the enemy」や「smite with lightning」などの表現で見られます。

The hero will smite the dragon with his sword.

英雄は剣でドラゴンを**打ちのめす**だろう。

God will smite evil from the earth.
