누군가나 무언가, 혹은 어떤 생각을 대신하거나 상징하는 것. 대표해서 말하거나 특정 부분 또는 비율을 보여줄 때도 쓴다.

'represent a company'는 회사 대표, 'represent an idea'는 아이디어를 상징함. 'introduce'나 'present'와는 다르며, 주로 상징하거나 대리하는 의미임.
